Remember These 3 Things If You’re Thinking Of Giving Up Writing

Don’t believe the lies that ‘writing monsters’ tell you.

1. Success in writing is not defined by fame and acknowledgment.

It doesn’t matter whether you get your piece published or not, or whether you get recognized for it. Writing is not about these things. Rather, it’s about allowing your voice to be heard.

As such, take it as an accomplishment whenever you get to begin and finish something – that, in one way or another, you were able to bring forth your ideas, prompt discussion, and improve yourself in the process.

Whether or not people agree with you, what matters is that you were able to bring something out into the world – and that in itself is something to pat your self on the back for.

2. It’s okay to feel ‘uninspired’ once in a while.

There are times when you feel like you’re losing the writer in you, especially when you get too stressed and burned out.  Oftentimes it frustrates you and you tend to forget why you’re writing in the first place.

If you ever find yourself in this situation, remember to slow down. The world already has too much pressure to take in and you don’t have to do the same to yourself.

Take the time to step back and do the things that refresh you.

Don’t be disheartened. You’re not going to be uninspired forever.

3. You help make the world a better place when you write.

More than just giving you a voice, writing is ultimately an attempt to lead people towards greater understanding.

It puts the spotlight on things, whether big or small. In this way, writing can be more than just a 'feel good' hobby. If you do it for the right reasons, it can make or break boundaries, connect people together, and hopefully pioneer change towards a better world.

Indeed, there is more to writing than a piece of paper.

Don't quit. Go for what you believe in. Write for a greater purpose.

Trust me, it's all going to be worth it in the end.

Are you an aspiring writer? Or do you simply write for fun?

Send your manuscript to the 2019 Montegrappa Writing Prize and you might get the chance to win individual sessions with UK top agent Luigi Bonomi, a two night stay at a Five Star hotel in Dubai and a Montegrappa Limited Edition pen.
