Entering My 30s: Becoming More of Who I Already Am

Turning 30 has brought a shift in perspective I didn’t quite expect. In my 20s, I was focused on figuring out who I was: exploring my strengths, working on my weaknesses, and trying to become the person I wanted to be. Now, this next chapter feels less about becoming someone new, and more about embracing who I already am.​

Just recently, I stumbled upon an old essay I wrote back in university when I was running for a leadership role. Reading it again felt both nostalgic and grounding.  I saw a young person who was confident, eager, and determined to make a difference, especially in advancing her organisation's mission and building its brand. It was eye-opening to see that, even then, the values that matter to me today were already present: commitment to excellent work, openness, and a desire to see people shine in their strengths.

Looking back, though, the journey from that ambitious student to where I am now hasn’t always been easy. Over the years, I’ve had to grow not just in my technical skills in marketing, branding, project management, and leadership, but also in how I navigate different personalities and working dynamics. There were moments when I chose to stay quiet to keep the peace, and times when I found myself second-guessing what I knew I was capable of.

But recently, rereading that essay has reminded me of who I am at my core: a capable, creative, and thoughtful leader.

I’m grateful for the journey, even the difficult parts. They’ve taught me to be more discerning, to trust myself more, and to hold on to what matters: my faith, my values, and my integrity.

Looking back, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and grateful for the people who have supported me along the way. Here’s to a new chapter of letting go of the pressure to prove myself and simply being who I am.

I’m continuing to grow and learn, knowing that I am, and always have been, enough.
