Turning Social Media into a Creative Space

Turning Social Media into a Creative Space
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how we use social media. It’s crazy how easy it is to get caught up in checking other people’s lives and endlessly scrolling. We live in a world where we’re connected 24/7, and it feels normal to stay updated on every little thing.

I guess missing out isn’t something we handle well. We crave connection, and social media is an easy way to fill that need. But the more I scroll, the more I realize how easy it is to lose hours just watching someone else’s life instead of living my own and making things happen.

That’s when it hit me—there’s so much more I could be doing than just consuming content. It’s easy to spend time watching other people’s highlight reels, but what about creating my own? What about sharing my own stories?

What I’ve Learned About Consumption and Creation

One big lesson for me is that you’re only as good as the content you consume. If most of your time is spent watching other people’s OOTDs or endless updates, it’s easy to get caught up and forget about your own creative potential.

For a while, I didn’t even notice how much time I was wasting on autopilot. But now, I’m starting to see that social media can be more than just a distraction—it can be a platform for creating and sharing things that actually matter.

Finding My Own Way to Create

Seth Godin said something that stuck with me about being an artist: it’s about taking a stand, owning your work, and sharing it because it’s important—not for validation.  That really stuck with me.

We all have the power to impact others through what we share, even if it’s just one post. It’s wild to think that something you create could inspire someone on the other side of the world. I still feel kilig when I read comments and messages from young readers in the Philippines who resonate with my blog.

Social media gives us the chance to make a real impact—whether it’s by spreading positivity, offering encouragement, or simply sharing a piece of ourselves.
"...[somebody] who takes a stand, [who] takes the work personally, and [who] doesn't care if someone disagrees. His art is part of him, and he feels compelled to share it with you because it's important, not because he expects you to pay him for it."

How I’m Approaching Social Media Now

For me, it’s not about going viral or getting the most likes—it’s about doing work that matters. I’m learning to focus on sharing content that reflects who I am and what I care about, and being more intentional with how I connect with others online.

The key is making sure that what you take in aligns with your values and what you share. When you engage with meaningful content, you're more likely to create something meaningful in return.

At the end of the day, we all have something unique to offer. For me, it’s about figuring out what that is and using social media to share it in a way that makes a difference—not for attention, but for the value it can bring to others.
